Busy, busy, busy

No, I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth.  I’ve just been very busy recently.  Lots of traveling and lots of work.  I just got back from Washington, DC yesterday and life will be a tad less busy this week.  I still need to make a trip to Boston and possibly one other trip within in the next month.

While in DC, I attended the JDRF Night of Hope Gala.  It was a super evening!  As soon as I get some pictures, I’ll post them.  A lot of money was raised for JDRF and I just couldn’t believe the generosity of people at this gala.  It was nice to reconnect with a few people and to meet some great friends of JDRF.  All in all, spectacular!  More on that later….

So, while I was in DC, I got a chance to see a few friends that I hadn’t seen in a while.  One of those was somebody that I used to run with years ago and had not seen in probably at least a couple years.  I had let a few people know that I was in DC and on Friday night, I get an email from my friend Allie, “I’m in DC too!  Where are you???  Call me!”  So, Allie and I went running together on both Saturday and Sunday mornings and we couldn’t stop talking the whole time!  We took turns talking, we talked at the same time, we interrupted each other, we just kept chatting the whole time we ran!  It was so much fun to catch up with her and it was so unexpected.

Well, let me see now, I guess I should give an update on my back.  I think it is finally okay.  At the end of last week, it was STILL hurting, but sometime this weekend, it finally faded out.  But … I still have hamstring and glute tightness from it.  I wanted to run a marathon this December - even though I feel like a slow jogger these days, I still thought I could knock off an upper 2:50s run.  But, now that’s out of the realm of possibilities for December.  I mean, you know, I could run the marathon and finish it, but it would be really slow and wouldn’t feel that great because of all the fitness I’ve lost with the back thingy.  Plus, there’s the potential for aggravating my back again.  Well, that’s where I am with that.  On the one hand, it’s nice that I’m not on a racing circuit now and having to suck it up and get through it; but, on the other hand, I really wanted to run the marathon in December.

And, thinking about December and marathons, I’m really looking forward to a friend’s race in December!  I don’t want to say anything else about it because I don’t want to put extra stress on my friend and I’d feel like I would be setting up some superstitious bad omen or something!

What else?  I’m loving the weather lately!  This is the best running weather of the whole year.  I ran twice yesterday - even though I’ve said I’m not running doubles any longer.  I couldn’t help it.  I just had to get outside and I couldn’t think of a better way to do that than to go for a run … twice.  I might do the same thing today (if I have time).

Happy November trails!
